About the Course
Kia ora, welcome to The Path Program.
The Path Program (Poi Assisted Therapy using EMDR) is a unique, eight-week online group designed to help you process and heal from trauma. Funded by ACC, this program is a collaboration between Trauma Aid Aotearoa and Spin Poi.
What You Will Experience
Integrated Healing: Path combines the therapeutic power of Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing with the rhythmic movement of traditional Poi.
Poi as Bilateral Stimulation (BLS): Poi movement is used to create the bilateral stimulation essential for EMDR processing. The rhythmic, predictable nature of spinning Poi supports your tinana (body) to feel calm, providing grounding and focus throughout the sessions.
No Need to Detail Trauma: Our approach to EMDR does not require you to talk about your trauma in detail; healing is facilitated by your brain's natural processing power.
Expert Facilitation: You will be safely guided by a collaborative team: a Clinical Psychologist from Trauma Aid Aotearoa and a Poi Instructor from Spin Poi.
Structure: The program consists of 8 weekly online sessions, run on Wednesdays. You will receive a personal PATH Workbook to support your journey, which includes activities, reflections, and a Poi Movement Index.
